Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane lauds midfielders Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr for their performance against AC Milan
Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane while speaking to Evening Standard praised the performance of midfielders Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr despite the defeat to AC Milan in the Uefa Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
Spurs travelled to Milan for the first away leg and fell to a 1-0 defeat following a goal from Brahim Diaz and face a battle to overturn the deficit in the return home fixture.
However, Kane has praised the performances of Skipp and Sarr who impressed many with their performance at the San Siro.
“I thought they were both outstanding. It’s not easy to come into the team — two young players who have not got as much experience as some of the others — in that sort of atmosphere and game, and perform the way they did. They should be proud.”
It was important for the youngsters to stack a claim and they rightly do in a huge Champions League tie despite the loss.
The performance would do their confidence a world of good considering the lack of options in the midfield currently.
Rodrigo Bentancur has been ruled out of the season with a ruptured ACL while Yves Bissouma is not expected to play again this term after having ankle surgery.
Hence, Pierre Emile Hojberg is the only fit starting midfielder available and this presents a wonderfulopportunity for Skipp and Sarr to be part of the starting eleven for the foreseeable future.
On the other hand, it is important for the team to get back to winning ways after losing two games in a row following the win over Manchester City.
The past two results have been reflective of the form of the team where a good result is followed by a bad result and there is no consistency.
Performances have to be improved for us to stand a chance of finishing in the top four and it starts with the league game against West Ham United on Sunday.
