Alasdair Gold thinks Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris might want to go back to France
Speaking in an interview with Football. London, popular journalist Alasdair Gold thinks that Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris will want to go back to France instead of being resigned to a bench role in the upcoming seasons.
The French goalkeeper has been a stalwart between the sticks for Spurs for over a decade, but his age and poor means that there is speculation about his future. As things stand, it looks like this is his last season at the club.
Much depends on Lloris. He has a year and a bit left on his contract, and Spurs are already on the hunt for his long-term successor. The question is, what will Lloris decide to do? Will he accept a secondary role at Tottenham?
As good as Lloris has been for the club, his story at N17 seems to be coming to an end. The French shot-stopper is one of the best ever to put on a Tottenham shirt. However, we need a new reliable presence in between the sticks.
It’s a difficult situation for Spurs to be in. Lloris is a fan favourite, and he has been a key player for the club for so long. He has also been an excellent ambassador for the club, always conducting himself with class and professionalism.
If Lloris does decide to leave the club, then Tottenham will really miss his presence off the pitch as a leader. It remains to be seen who they replace him with between the sticks going forward from here.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Gold had to say about the French shot-stopper’s future.
“Much depends on Lloris. He’ll have a year left on his deal, as will Forster. Spurs are looking to bring in the long-term successor to the Frenchman this summer and having been at the club for 11 years at that point, you’d expect Lloris to be given the choice over whether he wants to fight it out with the newcomer and help him adapt or make it a clean break and move on for what might be final move of his career”
“Lloris has always spoken about heading back to France to play and perhaps if he feels he’s going to spend more of next season on the bench then it might not be a hard decision for him to make.”
If Lloris does decide to move on, then it will be a sad day for Spurs fans. He has been an integral part of the team for so long, and his contributions will never be forgotten. However, it’s important to remember that football has to move on, and sometimes difficult decisions must be made.
