Alan Hutton believes it would be “difficult” for Antonio Rudiger to join Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton believes it would be “difficult” for Antonio Rudiger to move to Spurs from Real Madrid.
The Germany international joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. Prior to that, the 29-year-old spent five years on the books of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
However, now, the North London side are eyeing the centre-back’s signature. The Lileywhites will look to sign him in the upcoming transfer window to bolster their defensive ranks.
At the moment, Rudiger is tied down to the Spanish giants until the summer of 2026. However, the German has found it difficult to settle in at the Santiago Bernabeu side in his first year in Spain.
The 29-year-old has not been able to cement his place in the La Liga outfit’s starting lineup in the current campaign. The likes of Eder Militao and David Alaba have been ahead of him in the pecking order under Carlo Ancelloti.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hutton, who spent the majority of his playing career at Aston Villa, believes it will not be easy to entice Rudiger to join Tottenham in the coming months.
“I do not think you would ever shut that down. But, leaving a team like Real Madrid it must be very difficult. An iconic football club so it would be hard.
“But would he fancy going to Tottenham after already being at Chelsea? It would be a difficult one for him.”
Antonio Conte has previously worked with the German national is keen to reunite with him. The Italian manager signed the 29-year-old in the summer of 20217 when he was still in charge of the Stamford Bridge side.
At the moment, Spurs have the likes of Cristian Romero, Erik Dier, Clement Lenglet, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies in their ranks to deploy in the centre-back positions. However, the North London side have been shaky at the back for most of the season.

Therefore, we could evidently do with more quality in the backline. However, will Rudiger opt to leave Madrid after just one campaign and return to England? Only time will tell.
