New Jordan Pickford Everton contract to not include relegation release clause amidst Tottenham Hotspur links
Jordan Pickford is set to sign a new contract at Everton amidst links to Tottenham Hotspur. However, his new deal will not include a relegation release clause, according to The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
The 28-year-old’s current terms with the Toffees are set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the shot-stopper has been tipped for a big move, especially with the Goodison Park side struggling over the years.
Apart from Spurs, Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea have also been associated with the England international’s signature. The trio of English top-flight clubs could potentially be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the coming months.
However, it will seemingly be challenging to prise Pickford away from the Merseyside outfit. The 28-year-old is expected to extend his stay with them until the summer of 2027.
In the previous campaign, the England international came in clutch for Everton as they were fighting for survival in the English top flight. In the end, Frank Lampard managed to take them over the line.
However, the Merseysiders are now in a similar predicament with the former Chelsea head coach replaced by Sean Dyche. While in recent weeks, the Toffees have seen some positive results, they are still just one point above the relegation zone.
At Tottenham, Hugo Lloris has been the number one for several years now. The French national has been inconsistent in the last few campaigns. At 36, the shot-stopper is in the final stages of his career.
Fraser Forster is the backup in the squad. The former Southampton star is no spring chicken either. Alfie Whiteman is another option at Antonio Conte’s disposal.

Therefore, we evidently need to bolster the goalkeeping department sooner rather than later. However, with Pickford putting pen to paper, it remains to be seen whether he will be an option for Spurs.
