Real Madrid want Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni
According to CalcioMercatoWeb.it, Tottenham Hotspur could face a major setback in their summer transfer plans, as Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Alessandro Bastoni.
The young Italian centre-back has been a long-term target for Tottenham, but now faces the prospect of a move to the Spanish giants. This could throw a spanner in the works in the plans of Antonio Conte.
Real Madrid are currently facing defensive issues, particularly in La Liga, where they are trailing behind arch-rivals Barcelona. The midfield department is strong, but the defence is in dire need of reinforcements.
Although David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao are good as first-team options, the three have been forced to play every game when fit due to injuries at left-back or to one of themselves.
The Italian league is known for producing quality defenders, and Bastoni is one such player who has caught the eye of the Madrid hierarchy. Bastoni has been a regular starter for Inter Milan this season, showcasing his ability to read the game, his composure on the ball, and his solid defensive attributes.
The 22-year-old has the potential to become one of the best centre-backs in the world and has been linked with a move to Tottenham for some time now. Antonio Conte knows all too well about him from his time at Inter.
However, the latest reports suggest that Real Madrid could hijack Tottenham’s move for the Italian defender. Bastoni’s contract with Inter Milan expires in 2024, and if he does not renew his contract, Los Blancos could make their move for the talented centre-back.
Bastoni’s arrival at Real Madrid would be a major boost for the Spanish giants, as they look to strengthen their defence. With David Alaba and Nacho not getting any younger, the addition of Bastoni would provide Carlo Ancelotti with a solid defensive option.
