Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur successfully undergoes surgery after ACL injury
Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur has successfully undergone surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his left knee, according to football.london.
The midfielder underwent the procedure in Spain at the hands of a top surgeon. However, now comes the tough part as the 25-year-old will begin rehabilitation towards his long road to recovery.
With something like an ACL injury, the recovery time can be anywhere between seven to nine months. Therefore, the Uruguay international will be out for a considerable period and is going to miss the remainder of the season.
Bentancur got injured in Spurs’ loss to Leicester City in the Premier League earlier this month. The 25-year-old started the fixture and gave the North London side the lead.
At around the hour mark, in an attempt to win the ball, the Uruguayan picked up a knock. The midfielder was subsequently substituted for Pape Matar Sarr a few minutes later.
However, Tottenham had already capitulated in the first half and had gone into the break with a two-goal deficit. In the end, the Foxes beat us 4-1.
Bentancur has been a key player for Antonio Conte since his arrival in the winter window of 2022. Alongside Dejan Kulusevski, the 25-year-old made his way to the North London side from Juventus.
They both made a big difference, as Spurs ended up finishing in the top four last season. The Uruguayan has once again been key to Tottenham’s plans in the current campaign. He has made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

Bentancur’s absence will be a big blow for Conte as the 25-year-old is seemingly the only quality attack-minded midfielder in the squad. Hopefully, the Uruguayan will be able to recover soon and start where he left off.
