Leicester City’s James Maddison told to complete ‘perfect’ Tottenham Hotspur transfer
Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Newcastle United, as per LeicestershireLive.
The Englishman is talented enough to be a major player for a ‘big six’ club – a status Leicester have struggled to attain for themselves. They are currently 14th in the league table after 24 matches.
They have only qualified for the UEFA Champions League once in the Premier League era – when they won the title in the 2015-16 season under manager Claudio Ranieri.
These are numbers that won’t please Maddison. Spurs are on track to finish in the top four once again under manager Antonio Conte and have a team filled with world-class superstars Maddison can rub shoulders with.
A smart suggestion for Spurs
Harry Kane and Eric Dier would be the former Norwich City man’s teammates at the international level as well. According to former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, Spurs would be the perfect club for the 26-year-old playmaker.
He exclusively told Football Insider:
“Tottenham need a number ten like him. They keep playing this 3-4-3 formation, but they can totally change that if they get Maddison. It transforms into a 4-3-3 – and that means more attacking football for the fans.”
“Bentancur, Hojbjerg, and Maddison as a midfield three is a really exciting prospect for Tottenham. Whoever does get Maddison this summer has got themselves a really top player.”
This is indeed a great suggestion from Agbonlahor. A midfield three of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Maddison automatically sounds exciting because of the creativity the Englishman will bring.
It remains to be seen if the deal to sign Leicester would be a financially sound one for any of the potential suitors. His contract ends in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). It doesn’t help to have competition, while Maddison is also a homegrown player – a boon for any English team.
