Barcelona eye Tottenham Hotspur target Marcelo Brozovic as Sergio Busquets replacement
Barcelona are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target Marcelo Brozovic. As per Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t Fichajes), I Nerazzurri consider Brozovic as their next big sale.
Barca are in the market to find a potential successor for Sergio Busquets. The 34-year-old Spaniard is in the final few months of his deal at Camp Nou and could leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
Gavi and Pedri play alongside Busquets in Barcelona’s midfield. Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie are two other options at manager Xavi Hernandez’s disposal while young Pablo Torre could be the next big thing there.
Yet, they could enter the fray for 30-year-old Brozovic. The Croatia international, who finished third at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December, is one of the finest defensive midfielders around.
Brozovic to Spurs?
He is an adept passer of the ball and isn’t shabby at all when he is tasked with doing the dirty work in midfield. At 30, he has mustered a great deal of experience playing for a European superclub in Inter Milan.
He could be a very smart addition at Spurs for that reason. We need someone of Brozovic’s ilk to compete with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur for regular starts.
Yves Bissouma just hasn’t looked like the player he was during his days at Brighton & Hove Albion. Oliver Skipp, 22, seems like he is just getting started at the level and could use a couple of years before he can be tasked with the burden (or privilege) of being a regular starter.

Brozovic currently has just under three-and-a-half years left on his contract at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium (Transfermarkt). Spurs would just hope that Inter’s apparent financial difficulties force them to quote a price tag that is affordable for them.
