Cristian Stellini unsure whether winning FA Cup would help keep Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini is unsure whether winning the FA Cup would help convince Harry Kane to stay at the club.

Spurs will take on Sheffield United in the fifth round of the competition away from home on Wednesday (1 March). A win would help the North London side qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2017/18 season.

Speaking ahead of the match via football.london, Stellini was asked whether winning the domestic trophy could help keep the English captain. However, the Italian was coy in his answer.

“It’s not a question for me, it’s more a question for the club but for sure we have to try all together to do our best.

“If our best is to win a trophy we have to show on the pitch and everyone can enjoy to have Harry Kane in the club, but I’m not the right person to ask about this contract.”

Kane’s existing deal with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt). The 29-year-old has been one of the best players in the world over the years. However, he does not have a trophy to show for it.

The closest we came to getting our hands on silverware was in the 2018/19 season. Unfortunately, the North London side lost the Champions League final to Liverpool.

Spurs also had the opportunity to lift the Carabao Cup in 2015 and 2021. However, Chelsea and Manchester City, respectively, proved too much for us to handle on those days.

Kane made his way through the youth ranks at Tottenham and broke into the first team in the 2014/15 campaign. Since then, the England international has grown from strength to strength.

He has been a reliable outlet in front of goal for the North London side season after season. In the current campaign, the 29-year-old has once again shouldered the burden of our attack, finding the back of the net 20 times in 34 appearances.

Hopefully, we will be able to get past Sheffield comfortably. But it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites end their 15-year trophy drought this season.
