German duo join Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita race

According to Bild, Tottenham fans may be surprised to hear that RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly joining the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, with the Guinean international set to become a free agent this summer.

As a club that has struggled to find consistency in midfield this season, Tottenham are understandably interested in the prospect of signing a Premier League-proven player like Keita. However, it seems that they may face some stiff competition for his signature.

For Leipzig, the idea of bringing Keita back to the club where he made his name is understandably appealing. Having sold the midfielder to Liverpool for a significant fee back in 2018, the German side may feel that they have unfinished business with the 28-year-old.

Keita was a key part of the Leipzig side that finished second in the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season, and his return to the club could be just what they need to push on to the next level. It could also be what the player needs to resurrect his career.

Similarly, Dortmund may see Keita as a player who can help them bridge the gap to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The 28-year-old’s ability to drive forward from midfield and create chances for his teammates could be exactly what Dortmund need to unlock defences and win games.

Whenever he has been fit for Liverpool, Keita’s quality is very visible. The problem with him though is the fact that his fitness has been a torrid issue for Liverpool with the player almost always on the treatment table.

Tottenham meanwhile must go all out to try and sign Keita. Despite his fitness issues, he is a player who will really suit the club. Just the kind of player to thrive in our midfield, on a free transfer, this must be a no-brainer.

Liverpool right now don’t seem to be showing any inclination to renew Keita. Despite the competition for his signature, Tottenham must do all that they can to try and sign the Reds midfielder.
