Sevilla target Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon after Bryan Gil loan

Sevilla are interested in making a move for Tottenham Hotspur loanee Sergio Reguilon, as per Vamos Mi Sevilla (h/t Fichajes).

The Spanish left-back was allowed to join Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan last summer after the club signed Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan. This showed that Reguilon wasn’t in manager Antonio Conte’s plans for the time being.

Reguilon has had to wait for playing time with the Wanda Metropolitano outfit. He is currently out with a hamstring injury and has only played a paltry 98 minutes of senior football across competitions for Los Colchoneros.

Sevilla are now interested in making a move for the 26-year-old. The Spaniard would know Los Nervionenses pretty well given he spent the 2019-20 season on loan there.

What should Spurs do?

He is a very able, complete full-back capable of doing a job in defence as well as in the final third when his team are on the front foot. It is odd that Spurs have chosen to eliminate him to the fringes.

But then again, each manager has their own strokes. It won’t be a surprise if a new boss comes in and starts to favour Reguilon, which is why keeping him here beyond the summer won’t be a bad idea at all.

Perisic is well into his 30s and isn’t a long-term option for us. Ryan Sessegnon is attack-minded and hasn’t really been known for his defensive contributions in games.

Ben Davies, meanwhile, specialises in the defensive side of things and has been used as a left-sided centre-back for the majority of his time under Conte. If Spurs are sure that they don’t want to keep Reguilon here, then this summer would be a great chance to cash in on him for a hefty sum.

Otherwise, if a suitable offer doesn’t arrive, Reguilon won’t be a shabby name to have in the team. He still has 28 months left on his deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
