Barcelona boss Xavi will have final say over Franck Kessie joining Tottenham Hotspur
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez will have the final say over Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie’s future at the club, as per Spanish outlet SPORT.
The Ivory Coast international is on Spurs’ radar as they look to sign him to bolster their midfield. He joined Barcelona on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer.
Since then, he has failed to become a regular starter under manager Xavi Hernandez. The Spanish manager evidently prefers Sergio Busquets, Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong over him, and Spurs are said to be ‘really interested’ in signing the 26-year-old.
Hence, Kessie’s future at Spotify Camp Nou has come under doubt. Xavi will apparently decide on what to do with Kessie this summer.
Hopefully Xavi decides in our favour
Makes sense, given Barca’s immediate focus will be on winning La Liga after building a seven-point lead over Real Madrid. They stand a chance to profit from a player they paid nothing for in transfer fees.
Not a bad deal, especially if he isn’t in their long-term plans. Gavi and Pedri are very young, world-class midfielders who won’t be displaced from the line-up anytime soon.
Pablo Torre, 19, is tipped to be the next big thing in Barca’s midfield while De Jong is still in the prime years of his career. A move to Spurs, hence, could make sense for Kessie but only if he is promised more playing time here.

Otherwise, it would be a surprise to see him swap the benches at Barca for the benches at Tottenham. Here, he would only have Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to compete with for starts given Yves Bissouma’s poor start to life in N17.
