Journo gives verdict on Richarlison’s future at Tottenham this summer
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham Hotspur will try to ‘protect’ Richarlison this summer after signing him for 60million Pounds from Everton last summer.
The Brazil international has been his nation’s No. 9 under former manager Tite. You can’t be a regular starter for the Selecao if you aren’t good. But things haven’t clicked so far for him at Spurs.
Apart from a crucial couple of goals in the UEFA Champions League against Olympique de Marseille, he hasn’t really had many moments. The Italian journalist wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column:
“Richarlison has endured a difficult start at Tottenham, so what next for the Brazilian? To be fair on him, it’s not easy to join Tottenham and Conte and have an impact immediately, sometimes in football you need time to adapt to new system, new coach, new club… I’m sure they will try to protect Richarlison this summer and the investment they did to sign him.”
He has had to compete with the likes of Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min for starts here. Of course, he would struggle to make it in the starting XI on a regular basis.
It is worth mentioning that there was a time at the beginning of the season where the Sweden international was also forced to be on the bench due to Richy’s form. That, or manager Antonio Conte would have been under pressure to hand his big-name summer signing playing time.
Richarlison is 25 and has a lot of years still ahead of him. He could be the natural successor to one of Kane (29) or Son (30), which is why it does not make any sense at all to sell him already.
Moreover, despite the player’s talent, it wouldn’t be completely wrong to say that we perhaps paid a little over the top for him. It would be very hard to recoup that amount, especially given Richarlison’s form after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He is contracted here until the summer of 2027.
