Newcastle United ‘tracking’ Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Evan Ferguson
According to Mirror (h/t Shields Gazette), Newcastle United are ‘tracking’ Tottenham Hotspur target and Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
The 18-year-old arrived with the Magpies in January 2021 from Bohemians U19. He has scored three goals and two assists in seven league games this season, including goals against Arsenal and Leicester City.
The Magpies currently have Dan Ashworth as sporting director, who played a role in signing Ferguson at the Amex when he was with the Seagulls.
Spurs currently have 29-year-old Harry Kane as their first-choice option up front but we will have to think of someone to be his successor. Ferguson is 18 but he could be the next big thing in English football.
Ferguson to Spurs?
He is already capped twice by the Ireland national team. Richarlison, 25, is also here to take over if and when Kane needs replacing.
Ferguson’s current contract at Brighton lasts until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt), so the Seagulls have a lot of control over their future. But Spurs could offer him the chance to play at a higher level, with all due respect to the south Coast outfit.
It remains to be seen if such a move will impact Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrott’s future here. The former is on loan at Portsmouth while the latter is at Preston North End.
There was a lot of hype surrounding them at one point, but it seems to have gone quiet now. It is always a smart idea to buy young players before they explode onto the scene.

But gametime could be an issue. Newcastle could offer him playing time but given their ambitions, it remains to be seen if Ferguson can carve out a niche for himself in their starting XI before he reaches his prime years.
Hence, it could be an even race between the two teams. Let’s hope we are on our toes and ready to pounce.
