Tottenham Hotspur could make a move to sign Gerard Deulofeu this summer
Tottenham Hotspur could make a move to sign Gerard Deulofeu from Udinese Calcio this summer, as per Italian outlet Mondo Udinese.
Spurs apparently tried to sign him this winter but his injury spoiled any chance of a move. We ultimately ended the January window with Arnaut Danjuma, who is here on a loan deal from Villarreal until the summer.
Deulofeu could then make sense as a signing for the summer, when the Netherlands international returns to the Yellow Submarine. That will especially be the case if Bryan Gil is still not deemed good enough to start regularly when he returns from his loan spell with Sevilla.
Deulofeu, 28, has four caps for Spain and has experience playing in the Premier League with Everton and Watford, with the Hornets being the club he left for Udinese in 2021.
A smart move?
The Spaniard is versatile and can play anywhere across the frontline. This would be beneficial for us given he can act as cover for Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Son Heung-min.
We can also offer him UEFA Champions League football if we maintain our top-four status come the end of the season. He has played with the Toffees and the Hornets before, so a move to Spurs, with all due respect to the other two English clubs, would be a step up.
Deulofeu came through Barcelona’s youth academy but never really justified the hype that surrounded him when he was a teenager. This season, he has seven goals and three assists in 18 games across competitions for the Black and White.

His contract situation could also work in our favour, given he could leave as a free agent in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Hopefully, this means we can get him on a cut-price deal before it.
