Former Arsenal goalkeeper said ‘no’ to Fabio Paratici regarding Tottenham transfer

Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has already rejected Tottenham Hotspur transfer

Former Arsenal star and current Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has apparently said ‘no’ to a move to Tottenham Hotspur, as per Italian outlet Gazzetta.it.

It is claimed that the Poland international rejected Spurs’ sporting director Fabio Paratici’s approach and only has Juventus on his mind. His current contract at the Allianz Stadium runs until the end of next season.

Spurs would naturally be in the market for a new goalkeeper given Hugo Lloris’ situation and the fact that they don’t currently have a world-class goalkeeper ready to step in for him.

The Frenchman, now 36, is not going to play forever and has already seemed to be error-prone in recent seasons. Spurs could also see him leave as a free agent in the summer of 2024, as his contract expires that year.

Spurs shouldn’t rekindle their interest in Szczesny

They have been linked with names such as Everton’s Jordan Pickford in their pursuit of a successor to the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. It remains to be seen if Szczesny is a player they will retain their interest in the near future despite being apparently rejected by him.

His loyalty to Juventus would automatically matter for very less if he isn’t contracted to the club. But the former Arsenal goalkeeper isn’t a player we should target.

He will be 33 by the time his contract with Juventus expires, that is, if he doesn’t sign a new deal by then. Szczesny, who made 181 appearances for Arsenal, would also risk harming his relationship with the Gunners fans if he joins us.

But this isn’t something that should be considered by us majorly because of his age. It would make little sense to sign a player into his 30s if we will be in the same position of looking for a new goalie in a few years’ time.
