Real Madrid and Chelsea renew interest in Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur target Josko Gvardiol
Real Madrid have renewed their interest in Tottenham Hotspur transfer target and RB Leipzig superstar Josko Gvardiol, according to transfer expert Ekrem Konur on Twitter.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be among the teams chasing the 21-year-old centre-back’s signature. He was excellent for Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Gvardiol is also one of the very first names on RB Leipzig’s team-sheet, which goes to show just how mature he is for his age. He will only improve with time and can become one of the best defenders in world football; if he isn’t already on current form.
Real Madrid’s interest in a player, however, can be a hammer blow for other potential suitors. What they want, they usually get.
What to make of this?
Along with Barcelona, they seem to have an aura about them that attracts some of the world’s best talents. Their history coupled with modern-day domination in Europe and Spanish football make them one of the best destinations for most players.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti, however, has Eder Militao, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger as his first-team options at centre-back alongside Nacho Fernandez. Hopefully, this makes Gvardiol insecure about his playing time there.
Alongside Chelsea, we can also use a young, world-class defender who can instantly slot into our starting XI. Both the London teams have a need for that. The Blues know Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta aren’t getting any younger.
Spurs, meanwhile, have a serious lack of world-class defenders apart from Cristian Romero. Hopefully, this plays in our favour if we seriously make an offer for Gvardiol.

However, his release clause of £97million would surely be an amount that most teams won’t be comfortable parting with. Hopefully, we’ve been saving up well over recent seasons.
