Liverpool actively pursuing Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison
Liverpool are said to hold an ‘active interest‘ in signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, who was on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar in January.
Spurs and Newcastle United were heavily linked with a move for Maddison in the winter transfer window, but nothing materialised. Liverpool seem to have joined the race now.
According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Reds are monitoring his contract situation at the King Power Stadium. An offer in the region of 60 to 70million Pounds could be enough to sign the 26-year-old star.
That is certainly a huge fee for a player whose contract expires at the end of next season. He has registered nine goals and five assists in 20 games in all competitions this season for the Foxes.
Spurs must retain their interest in Maddison
He is, of course, one of the very first names on manager Brendan Rodgers’ team-sheet every week. No wonder they want a big fee for him considering how important he is to them.
Maddison could add much-needed creativity to the midfield of both Spurs and Liverpool. Both teams lack a natural No. 10 that can create chances for the attackers at will from midfield.
The former Norwich City midfielder is also adept at playing as a winger, which only boosts his profile. Hopefully, Tottenham haven’t lost interest in him.
He would have run down six more months of his current contract by the time this season ends, and Spurs should hope for Leicester to be a bit more reasonable regarding a sale then. This could be their last big chance to cash in on him if he decides not to extend his deal.

But we have to be very wary of Liverpool, who are also in need of a midfielder who can give 5-6 years of service. Their midfield has been riddled with injuries this season while the likes of Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Jordan Henderson are into their 30s.
