Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Mauricio Pochettino could be on Real Madrid’s radar
Tottenham Hotspur could be on the lookout for a new manager if Antonio Conte doesn’t pen fresh terms with the club. His current deal expires this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino – the man who is nothing short of a Tottenham legend in the modern era – has emerged as an obvious candidate. However, according to Spurs expert and the Athletic journalist Jack-Pitt Brooke (Subscription Required), Pochettino could be on Real Madrid’s radar.
But only if Carlo Ancelotti departs. The journo wrote:
“It is still unclear whether Ancelotti will be at Real Madrid next season, but if he does leave then Pochettino would surely be under consideration from Perez for a third time. And this time, unlike in 2018 and 2021, Pochettino would not be under a contract managing anyone else.”
“Even though there were difficult moments when Pochettino managed PSG that does not mean that he is no longer interested in working at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
“PSG has its own set of circumstances, in terms of ownership and the uniquely top-heavy squad. Real Madrid is not quite as abnormal as PSG. If offered the chance to take over at the Bernabeu, it would obviously be hugely attractive.”
Makes sense. Carlo Ancelotti packed hi bags and left Everton after a very short spell when Real Madrid came calling for him. They tend to have that effect on players and managers.
Ancelotti has done nothing wrong there apart from perhaps trailing Barcelona by nine points in the league this season. They won the league last season and the UEFA Champions League.
The 5-2 thrashing of Liverpool at Anfield showcases their pure dominance under the Italian manager. A lot of things will have to align, then, if Poch is to return to Spurs. Ancelotti would have to leave Madrid.
They will have then to approach Pochettino, who would have to agree to the proposition. And none of this would matter if Conte decides to stay here beyond the summer. The best option would be to have the former Inter Milan and Juventus boss here for as long as possible.

But if not, we should be on our toes for Pochettino. He knows this club inside out and his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) would have given him an idea on how to manage a team full of stars who expect nothing less than at least two trophies each season.
