Danny Rose slams Tottenham Hotspur after AC Milan loss
Danny Rose has ripped into Tottenham Hotspur’s hierarchy after their elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of AC Milan earlier this week.
We lost the first leg 1-0 at San Siro and were held to a 0-0 draw in N17. This effectively marks another season with a trophy, with the last one coming all the way back in 2008.
Rose criticised the club back in 2017 and was apparently fined for it. Six years later, he has done it again, but now as a free agent without a club.
He said (h/t Daily Mail):
“Going at the hierarchy… I still look to go into the Spurs training ground so I’ll have to be careful what I say but I think that everybody has to be held accountable.
“I heard something recently that the signings have not been great and it’s bizarre as I’m sure I said something like that six years ago and got fined two weeks’ wages but here we are. Everybody has to be held accountable and I think it will be interesting to see where they go from here until the end of the season.”
Rose isn’t wrong here. There is something wrong with Spurs. It’s been a long, long time since we have won a trophy or looked like getting close to winning one.
Where are we headed?
Sure, reaching the UEFA Champions League final and the EFL Cup final under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, respectively, would seem like we were close to winning something.
But recall the final of the competition. We hoped to win the trophy but there was serious doubt about our chances because we just weren’t as good as Liverpool and Manchester City on paper.
The finals, which we lost without scoring a single goal, saw us get dominated. We never once looked like winning them. Mourinho’s awkward firing just before the League Cup final was truly a shocking call from the management.
Perhaps egos got in the way? The club’s success should always be put first. As for our recruitment policy, we have signed a lot of players in our last two windows under Antonio Conte.
But how many of them are players that would walk into the line-ups of Liverpool, Manchester City, or Chelsea? Richarlison and Ivan Perisic have been the only ones making a difference in the starting XI, with the latter in his 30s.

Spending isn’t always the way to go forward but this time, it looks like it. A world-class defender, a goalkeeper to replace Hugo Lloris, and a proper third-choice midfielder will be a great place to start.
