Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane unhappy after Champions League exit vs AC Milan

Harry Kane was unhappy with another trophyless season at Tottenham Hotspur following his team’s UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of AC Milan.

Spurs were unable to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in N17. We lost to the odd goal at San Siro and Kane and co. were equally ineffective in front of the goal in the second game.

This effectively means we have no chance of winning a trophy this season after being eliminated from the UCL, FA Cup and EFL Cup, which Manchester United won last month.

Kane, 29, hasn’t won a trophy in his senior career. Tottenham haven’t lifted any trophy since the 2007-08 campaign. The England international was understandably incensed after the elimination earlier this week.

What next for Spurs?

He said after the game (h/t the Guardian):

“Where we’re at as a club, we should be winning trophies. The top four [being the only target] is a consequence of not playing as well as we want to play.

“For sure, it’s not enough for this club. I totally understand the fans’ frustration. Top four [alone] is not good enough for anyone at this club, especially the fans. They have the right to voice their opinion.”

He is right. We have invested a fair bit into this squad, and appointed managers such as Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, but are yet to find any luck with trophies.

Who to blame? The squad on the field is good enough to win cup competitions but one can say that our backline isn’t elite. Defence plays a big role in winning titles.

This isn’t to say that the entire problem lies there, but this team needs several Harry Kanes elsewhere on the pitch – world-class individuals who almost always deliver.

Not all of them can come through the academy. Sometimes, we have to spend a pretty penny. The amount we invested in Richarlison could have been utilised to add top-quality names elsewhere.

There has to be serious investment in the team this summer. Our priority has to be to back Conte, get him to commit his future to the club, and then have a proper plan in place – and this plan must include signing world-class superstars.
