Jamie Carragher says Manchester United are the only option for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane
Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has come under doubt once again. His contract has under 16 months left and there haven’t been any overt hints that he will pen fresh terms.
For a player of his calibre, who is now our all-time top goalscorer, there won’t be a shortage of suitors. According to acclaimed pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, Manchester United could be the only realistic option for him.
He said on CBS (h/t Sky Sports):
“I think the only place he can go realistically is Manchester United and I don’t want to see him at Manchester United for obvious reasons. When you think Liverpool have just signed Darwin Nunez, Manchester City have got Erling Haaland, and he can’t go to Arsenal.”
He claimed that he doesn’t want Manchester United to sign the 29-year-old, perhaps because he knows Kane would be a hit at Old Trafford and could help them rediscover their glory – which would, of course, not be a pleasant situation for those with an allegiance to Liverpool.
Asked if Bayern Munich could be a good option for him – a club who are yet to properly replace Robert Lewandowski, Carra opined that Kane would want Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals.
“He will want the Premier League record, if he stays between now and the end of his career he will be the top scorer to ever play in the Premier League. It can’t be the most important thing but it is a pretty special achievement.
“So I think if he is going to stay in England, the only big team who need a centre-forward is Manchester United. But will they pay £100m for a guy who is nearly 30? If he doesn’t leave this summer he will stay at Tottenham for the rest of his career.”
The last option works pretty well for us. We would happily take him here for the rest of his career because he has shown no signs of slowing down at all.
But Carra’s verdict does make sense. If they can afford Kane’s valuation – if there is one, to begin with – then the move could make sense for all parties apart from Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea and Arsenal should be out of the question as long as he is contracted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Even if Liverpool didn’t have Darwin Nunez, it would have been a surprise if the Reds splashed such an amount for a player almost into his 30s.
Manchester United, then, seem to be the only high-quality option if he wants to be here. It’s on us to prove we have a better project than them, but it may not be possible this season as are now set for a trophyless season after elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
