Tottenham coach Antonio Conte admits he could be sacked this season
Another trophy-less campaign, another season of disappointment for Tottenham Hotspur fans and Antonio Conte. For years now, the club has been unable to break their 15-year trophy drought, despite their consistent efforts to improve the team.
The recent events of being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Sheffield United and losing ground in the league with defeat at Wolves have further worsened the situation and it looks like it is reaching a point of no return.
To add insult to injury, Spurs’ Champions League exit to AC Milan felt all too familiar. The team’s playing style under Italian manager Antonio Conte has been criticised as negative by some fans. With his contract ending in June, Wednesday’s defeat could spell the end for Conte’s tenure at the club.
Conte, however, has shown a positive attitude, acknowledging that the club will make their assessment at the end of the season. He remains committed to the team and the club, respecting his contract and stating that Tottenham knows his thoughts.
The Italian manager refused to blame his players for their performance, praising their commitment and effort. He believes that the team has taken a step forward, but it is not enough to compete at the highest level.
However, Conte is not living in false belief. He did agree as quoted by the BBC that a sack might be around the corner.
“Let’s see how the season ends. Maybe they can send me away even earlier. Tottenham know very well what my thoughts are and at end of season we will meet and make a decision”
It is evident that the club needs to address the underlying issues to avoid repeating the same mistakes. For years, Tottenham has been a team that has been there and there about without genuinely improving.
The fans’ frustrations are understandable, but it is essential to remain patient and support the team during these difficult times. A change in manager may provide a temporary solution, but the long-term success of the club depends on a stable and consistent approach.
