Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou shoots down links to Tottenham Hotspur job

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has shot down links to the Tottenham Hotspur job, where he has been touted as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte.

The Italian coach’s contract expires this summer and he is yet to put pen to paper on a deal with Spurs. That has opened up the possibility of Tottenham looking for replacements if the ex-Chelsea boss leaves.

Postecoglou, who has won four A-League titles during his time in Australia (two each with South Melbourne FC and Brisbane Roar), has been one of the names that have been linked with Tottenham.

The Athens-born Australian coach is currently with Celtic but his deal, like Conte’s, expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt). The Scottish giants are on course for a domestic treble.

What to make of Ange’s comments?

They have already won the Scottish League Cup, are active in the Scottish Cup, and have a nine-point lead over Rangers in the league table after 28 games. Addressing his future at the club, the 57-year-old said (h/t BBC):

“It’s not of interest to me. I don’t wake up and get an early briefing on the latest gossip. The rest of it doesn’t mean anything to me. It doesn’t affect me or the people around me. Like most things, people want to have something to talk about.”

It makes sense. Tabloids don’t stop bringing up just about any name when a team is looking for a new manager, and that seems to be the case with us as well.

Nevertheless, despite his comments, a move to N17 could be a big step in Postecoglou’s career. Winning trophies in Scotland is one thing but to do it at Tottenham Hotspur, a big six club in one of the world’s most famous and competitive leagues, would raise his name to stardom.

He could be a free agent this summer and for Spurs, can be an option if they want a highly experienced manager who has a taste of winning silverware.
