Leeds United slap £30m+ price tag on Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Illan Meslier
Leeds United have placed a price tag of above 30million Pounds if they are to sell Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Illan Meslier, as per Football Insider (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post).
The French goalkeeper joined the Yorkshire-based club from Lorient for just 5million Pounds in 2020. He has since grown in stature and valuation.
Spurs could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to be 36-year-old Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor. Meslier can be that for both France and Spurs.
Lloris hung up his gloves after France’s silver medal finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The likes of Meslier and Mike Maignan can now step to the fore for Les Bleus.
Affordable for Spurs?
A similar change at Spurs can be expected given Lloris’ age. Meslier, 23, could be a smart signing in that regard. He has been superb for the Whites in recent seasons.
Hopefully, he harbours ambitions to play at the highest possible level and join a club that can consistently play in the UEFA Champions League and are at least in the conversation for trophies.
Given Spurs’ potential need for a new goalkeeper and Meslier still having a little under three-and-a-half years on his contract, the aforementioned price tag doesn’t seem exorbitant.
This is a move the Lilywhites would be wise to make. Of course, Meslier lacks experience in Europe but he is one appearance away from reaching a century of appearances in the Premier League.

Fraser Forster can be a good deputy but he too is in his 30s. Spurs perhaps can’t escape the fact that they could have to spend properly to replace one of their greatest goalkeepers in history. Meslier would be one of the safer choices.
