Right-back Emerson Royal likely to return for Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton
Tottenham Hotspur will likely welcome Emerson Royal back for their upcoming Premier League clash against Southampton.
This comes after the full-back missed the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Speaking ahead of the game as per football.london, Antonio Conte confirmed that Ivan Perisic and Emerson were both short-term absentees.
While Perisic made the bench to face the tricky trees, Emerson was not included in the matchday squad. It is fair to assume that since both players appear to be in the same boat, the latter’s return to action is just a matter of time.
Having been knocked out of all the other competitions, Spurs can now focus all their attention to secure a top-four finish. Newcastle United, Liverpool and potentially even a resurgent Chelsea could make it tricker as we enter the final lap of the season.
Emerson has made 31 appearances for the club across all competitions this season, scoring twice and assisting one more. There were serious questions asked about his future at the club but the Brazilian has, to his credit, upped his game in recent weeks.
Pedro Porro’s arrival certainly gives Conte options in the right-back spot for the upcoming games. Emerson’s return should keep the competition healthy and provide the club with strength in depth.
Emerson has it in him to be an overwhelming attacking force down the flank on his day and can be a difference-maker going forward. We hope the Spurs ace’s injury has not thrown him off his game and he returns stronger than ever.
