Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane reacts to Liverpool’s loss vs Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are in a race for a top-four finish, and Harry Kane has expressed his delight at capitalising on the Reds’ most recent slip-up in the league.

Given we are in a direct race with the Merseyside-based giants for the fourth spot, it would be the normal response to tiptoe around the topic if and when asked about the other team’s result.

Manager Antonio Conte, for example, discarded talk about Liverpool’s results and said Spurs have to ignore it and focus on themselves. Kane has kept it simple and said it like it is.

Following our 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest in N17, the 29-year-old England international told SpursPlay (h/t Liverpool Echo):

Kane happy with Liverpool’s slip-up

“Yeah, fourth is definitely there to be had. Obviously with Liverpool dropping points today as well we capitalised on that. There’s going to be a lot of chopping and changing from now until the end of the season so we just have to be ready and try to take our moments when they come.”

Liverpool fell to a 1-0 loss against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday just before Spurs started their game against the Tricky Trees. A Philip Billing goal was enough to hand the Reds their first league loss after five games.

They gained a big advantage over us last weekend when we lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers and they beat Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield. This, then, evens out things to a big extent.

We are currently on 48 points after 27 games this season, sitting in fourth spot just above Liverpool. The Reds have 42 points from 26 matches while Newcastle United trail them by one point after having played 25 games.

The top-four race could boil down to the 30th April league clash between Spurs and Liverpool at Anfield. We have to ensure we go into that game with a lead that is at least four points so a loss doesn’t dismantle us from top four at a very crucial point in the second half of the season.
