Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City target Josko Gvardiol wants Premier League transfer
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City target Josko Gvardiol wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer if an opportunity in the Premier League arises.
This is according to BILD journalist Christian Falk, via CaughtOffside, who states that the Cityzens hold an advantage over Spurs due to their financial power. He has a release clause of 112million Euros that activates in 2024 while he is on a contract that only expires in the summer of 2027.
However, the Croatia international would force the German club to accept an offer of 100million Euros if it arrives on the table this summer. Chelsea and Liverpool have also been named as potential suitors.
That is certainly a huge price tag, even though some might argue that the player warrants it. He is just 22 years old and will only get better with time.
Gvardiol to Spurs?
He is already one of the finest centre-backs in Europe and was a standout performer for Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup where his nation finished third. Spurs need a new centre-back.
Bluntly put, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez just aren’t at the level of being world-class defenders. Joe Rodon, who is on loan at Stade Rennes, isn’t deemed good enough at Spurs either.
If he was, we wouldn’t have had to offload the Wales international to another team for him to get some playing time. Even Eric Dier is good only on select few days while Ben Davies is a left-back playing in central defence.
Gvardiol would certainly be an instant starter in manager Antonio Conte’s side (if he stays) but then again, as Falk noted, Chelsea and Manchester City hold an advantage over Spurs due to their spending power.
