Former Everton manager emerging as top candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Spurs

Fulham’s Marco Silva top candidate to become next Tottenham Hotspur manager as Antonio Conte’s future remains uncertain

Fulham manager Marco Silva has done a great job in the Premier League this season, as his team lies eighth in the league table – just nine points behind Tottenham Hotspur.

This is a massive achievement considering they were promoted to the Premier League just last summer. The Portuguese manager has also resuscitated his managerial credentials this campaign.

Silva’s last venture before his stint at Fulham was at Everton. He was hired by the Toffees in the summer of 2018 but was relieved of his duties one-and-a-half year later following a 5-2 defeat to Liverpool which left them 18th in the league.

He has seemingly come a long way since then. According to the Sun, he is now a top candidate to replace Antonio Conte at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What should Spurs do?

The former Juventus and Chelsea manager is nearly in the final three-and-a-half months of his contract. There is no sure-shot indication that he will renew.

If anything, the chances of renewal become more unlikely every passing week. There is no doubt that a move to Spurs would be considered as an upgrade for Silva.

We have a newer, bigger stadium, a wider global reach, more world-class players on paper and the ability to at least compete for trophies and play in the UEFA Champions League. But is Silva the right man for us?

We can’t answer that until we try him out but on paper, his C.V. doesn’t capture one’s imagination. He can, of course, be a refreshing arrival in the sense that he won’t be a ‘big-name’ signing like Jose Mourinho or Conte that will come with uber-high expectations.

If Spurs want to bring him in, or any other manager for that matter, as Conte’s replacement, they better do it as soon as possible. It will give them time to settle in and know the squad better before they take up the task to manage them for the whole of next season.
