Antonio Conte embraces Clement Lenglet of Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte to take Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet with him if he joins Inter Milan

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte would be interested in taking Tottenham Hotspur centre-back and on-loan Barcelona star Clement Lenglet to Inter Milan if he joins them this summer, as per Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb.it.

The Italian manager was with I Nerazzurri from 2019 to 2021 where he led them to the Scudetto in his last season with the club. Conte was then appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor at Spurs later that year.

A transfer that offered so much promise seems to be going down the drain. His contract in N17 expires this summer and there are no signs that the former Chelsea and Juventus manager will renew his deal here.

Hence, it makes sense for Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to be on the lookout for new names in case Conte walks. Mauricio Pochettino is one of the names that have been linked with the job.

Two major exits for Spurs?

However, it seems that the Italian tactician has taken a liking to one of the players currently at Spurs. Lenglet, who joined us from Barcelona last summer on a season-long deal, could be on his way to Inter Milan along with Conte.

There is no option or obligation to buy in the French centre-back’s contract, which means Spurs can do nothing if such a situation arises. For Inter, this deal would make sense.

They are on the verge of losing Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij on free transfers this summer. For Spurs, this perhaps doesn’t change a lot.

There was anyway no way for us to directly purchase the former Sevilla centre-back from Barcelona. But it could be a blow for us if we were planning to buy him from the Catalan giants in a separate deal.

There is no hiding that we need a world-class defender. Potentially adding Lenglet permanently alongside a big-name addition such as Josko Gvardiol won’t be shabby business…
