Harry Winks: No one from Tottenham has contacted me, not even Antonio Conte
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Harry Winks has surprisingly claimed that no one from the club has contacted him during his spell at Sampdoria, not even manager Antonio Conte.
The club allowed the English midfielder to leave on a season-long loan last summer as he joined the Italian club. He had a nightmare start to his spell with I Blucerchiati where he spent a long time on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
It seemed to be a loan spell that would go down as a huge failure. But the 27-year-old has resuscitated his career and has now started in all of his team’s last eight Serie A matches.
Overall, he has nine appearances to his name with the Italian club this term. Speaking in an interview with Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Winks claimed:
“No one from Tottenham has contacted me, not even the coach. I was and remain totally focused on Sampdoria.”
This could be interpreted in multiple ways. Either Spurs are so busy that they are losing track of who they’ve sent out considering they have many fires to fight at home.
Secondly, this could mean that Winks isn’t thought of as a player Tottenham want in their future plans after the summer. The fact that he was allowed to leave last summer clearly showed Conte’s views on him.
Thirdly, this could mean that Conte is himself not too focused on things for next season. That may be because his current deal expires this summer, with no signs of a new deal in sight.

Whatever the reason may be, Winks being treated like this is shameful. He is one of our very own – a player who made it through this academy and is a role model for players like Matthew Craig.
