Antonio Conte gives verdict on Harry Kane’s Tottenham future amid Manchester United transfer links
Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is growing more and more uncertain with each passing day, with Manchester United linked with a potential summer move.
According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils want Kane but recognise that a deal could be difficult to achieve. Spurs want to keep the England international and want to extend his stay in N17 beyond the summer of 2024.
He is arguably the club’s greatest-ever player and is already our all-time top goalscorer at the age of 29. But with no trophies in his cabinet and Spurs destined to end another season without silverware, Kane could have a decision to make.
Manager Antonio Conte has given his verdict on Kane’s future at Tottenham. Speaking at his pre-match press conference before the Premier League game against Southampton on 18 March, the former Italy national team boss said (h/t @FabrizioRomano):
“For sure the club wants to involve Harry Kane for the rest of his career. Then you know football, sometimes it’s unpredictable — it’s not in my role to make a decision. This is a decision for the club and for Harry.”
These sound like the comments of a man who is himself not bothered by what happens at the club beyond the current season because he perhaps doesn’t want to renew his contract himself.
The Italian tactician’s deal expires this summer and there are absolutely no signs of a renewal happening yet. This sends a really wrong message to superstars such as Harry Kane, considering it leaves the club in uncertainty about who will run them next season.
If Conte is committed to the cause at Tottenham, then he should lead by example and renew his deal. This would send a strong signal to the likes of Kane that he believes in the project.

If the former Chelsea boss wants to jump ship, then so could other players in search of greener pastures. And greener pastures here mean trophies, of which Kane has none till now.
