Pundit urges Tottenham Hotspur to be patient with Pedro Porro
Pedro Porro joined Tottenham Hotspur this January from Sporting CP on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make it permanent for a fee of around 40million Pounds this summer.
The 23-year-old wasn’t having much luck in manager Antonio Conte’s starting XI in the first few weeks in north London. That was largely due to Emerson Royal’s form.
But the Spain international is now back in the starting XI for us on a regular basis. He was surely brought to replace Emerson in the XI in the near future.
If that wasn’t the case, then it would be a surprise seeing Daniel Levy invest this much in a player who won’t be a regular starter. Emerson’s game hasn’t been flawless.
O’Hara has a point
He is not refined with his end product in the final third of the pitch and seems to have a mistake in him when he is having to defend. Porro, meanwhile, is an able attacking right-back who has very good physicality which helps him in defence.
Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes the former Manchester City player needs confidence if he is to become a regular starter for the club. He told GIVEMESPORT:
“I think Porro is a lot better than Emerson Royal and will carry on being a lot better. I think he’s a good signing for Spurs, and we’ve got to give him the confidence and belief to keep playing week in, week out.
“Let’s not kill his confidence as we did with Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma. You’ve got to build these players up to want to perform for Tottenham.”
O’Hara is spot on here. Conte and Cristian Stellini have to manage Porro well and try and keep his confidence. Strange comments from the former Juventus and Chelsea manager won’t help.

What we mean when we say strange is Conte’s comments that labelled Djed Spence a club signing the moment he was signed from Middlesbrough or openly telling the world Yves Bissouma is struggling to adapt tactically.
It’s about building the player’s confidence up rather than looking to sacrifice their reputation to protect your personal best interests. That isn’t to say Conte has done this, but one can’t overlook how Spence has been treated in terms of playing time and in media before his loan move to Stade Rennais in January.
