Antonio Conte enraged by Tottenham Hotspur’s mediocrity after Southampton draw
Antonio Conte’s post-match interview following Tottenham Hotspur’s draw against Southampton was a sight to behold.
The Italian manager was enraged after the full-time whistle against the Saints, where we conceded a 93rd-minute penalty goal to James Ward-Prowse, and he carried that anger in front of the media as well.
The 3-3 draw, which came after we were leading 3-1 with around 76 minutes on the clock, left us just two points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle United, who have two games in hand. After the game at St. Mary’s, the former Chelsea manager said (h/t Football.London):
Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don’t play for something important yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here? I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.
Conte angry after Southampton draw
Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion can all overtake us if they win their games in hand, while Liverpool can close down the gap to just one point, with Spurs having a game left to play at Anfield later this season. Conte continued:
“…there are 10 games to go and some people think we can fight. Fight for what with his spirit, this attitude, this commitment? What? For seventh, eighth, 10th place? I am not used to this position. I’m really upset and everyone has to take their responsibility.”
Conte’s contract situation has been the point of discussion in recent weeks. Perhaps the club’s situation and the level at which they are competing is a reason behind that because, in his aforementioned comments, he talks about only competing at the highest level.
He won titles with Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus domestically. But until when can he keep blaming the club? He has had three transfer windows here and Daniel Levy has backed him to a respectable extent.

Either Conte is really impatient to be making these comments just one-and-a-half years into his reign, despite constantly asking fans for patience in the past, or, he could be on his way out and blame the club’s lack of endeavour for it.
Perhaps he can begin the revolution at Tottenham by showing that he is committed here and sign a new deal, which can in turn give his players a bit of confidence in his and the club’s project here.
