Transfer News: Chelsea make the first move for Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Onana
In what would come as a blow to Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea are believed to have made a move to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer.
This is according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim that the Blues have taken ‘detailed information’ on the Cameroon international’s situation at Inter. Last month, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Spurs are interested in Onana and told TeamTalk:
“Onana joined Inter from Ajax last summer, but he could now be allowed to leave after just 12 months in Milan. Tottenham are very much one to keep an eye on. They liked him a lot before he moved to Milan.”
Edouard Mendy could be out of the exit doors at Stamford Bridge this summer after having lost his starting berth to Kepa Arrizabalaga under manager Graham Potter recently. This has nudged Chelsea to take a decision on who they want between the sticks next season.
Spurs and Onana – a good match

We could be in the market for a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is 36 years old and at the dusk of his playing days. He has become error-prone in recent seasons and it is about time we replace him with someone who is younger, dependable, and well-rounded in his game.
Onana, 26, has earned his stripes at the club level. He had a fallout with Cameroon at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but he has done enough for Ajax and Inter to showcase why he is one of the top names in world football right now.

He signed last summer, which means Inter won’t be open to letting him leave for cheap given the control they exercise over his future. Onana would know that even if one of Kepa and Mendy stay in SW6, his starting spot could be under threat there. No such worries at Spurs once Lloris leaves…
