Journalist claims Roberto De Zerbi will miss out on Tottenham Hotspur job
Roberto De Zerbi is one of the names that have popped up during the period of uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian manager has made a big impression during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he was appointed earlier this season, and has helped the club to seventh place in the league so far.
The funny thing is, they can overtake Spurs if they win their two games in hand and are, hence, well in the race for a surprise top-four finish at the end of the season. That would be a huge thing – akin to an underdog winning a major title.
De Zerbi’s first major coaching job was with Foggia in 2017, where he led the club to a fourth-place finish in Serie B. His attacking style of football was praised, and it was clear that he had a talent for developing youngsters.
What should Spurs do?
It is understandable if his name keeps getting mentioned with regard to the job at Tottenham Hotspur. However, according to journalist Dean Jones, while he ‘will be’ in the conversation alongside other names this summer for the Spurs job, he probably won’t get it.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT exclusively:
“When it comes to it, there will be five or six candidates, and he’ll be one of them. But I don’t think he’ll quite have what it takes to be the man that gets the job.”
Jones is correct here. It will be a surprise if Daniel Levy and co. overlook other, more famous and more qualified names for De Zerbi. But then again, we can’t predict what Spurs will do here.
They binned Mauricio Pochettino for a proven winner in Jose Mourinho. Next, they went for a promising, underachieving coach in Nuno Espirito Santo. When that didn’t work out, we turned to Premier League and Serie A-winning manager Antonio Conte.

If that cycle continues, there could be a chance that we go for a more unconventional name. Fans would want a proven winner here to end the trophy drought. But one thing is for certain. No more short contracts. Sign a new manager on a long-term deal and have them committed to the project from Day 1.
