Ben Jacobs believes Tottenham and Liverpool are favourites to land Kim Min-Jae
Speaking to TeamTalk, popular journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are favourites ahead of Manchester United to land Napoli centre-back Kim Min-Jae.
A case can be made for the South Korean being the best central defender in Europe this season and one will not be called outlandish for making this claim. Such has been his performances for the Serie A leaders.
Replacing Kalidou Koulibaly at Napoli was not going to be an easy task by any stretch of the imagination but Kim Min-Jae has just done that and even gone on to surpass the Senegalese international.
Considering the kind of season the player is having, it is not a surprise to see interest from the Premier League with Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all interested in signing the player.
Ben Jacobs has claimed that the latter two clubs have an edge over the Red Devils for this specific reason
“Manchester United are in a difficult position with that type of player because he sees himself as a starting centre-back and they’ve obviously got Martinez and Varane there. But there’s other teams that are looking to drop somebody straight into their starting lineup. Tottenham are another club that have scouted the player and they would be looking to bring in a starting centre-back, as with Liverpool as well”
Don’t think twice
If Kim Min-Jae were indeed available, Tottenham must try and sign him without batting an eyelid irrespective of the price he’d command. He could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero going forward.
Antonio Conte, if he leaves, will be replaced by a new manager in the summer who might stick to a back three or shift to a back four. Irrespective of what formation we use, we need a world-class defender to partner with Romero.
Considering the qualities that the South Korean has, he’d be the perfect fit at N17. Tottenham must do everything in their might to sign him but it is easier said than done considering the other teams in the race.
