Tottenham among clubs eyeing move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are among a few clubs who are eyeing a move for talented Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer.
The Cameroonian shot-stopper has been in fine form this season and has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Chelsea. Tottenham are not far behind either.
Onana has had an impressive campaign in the Champions League, keeping five clean sheets in the competition, the most by any goalkeeper. He has been pivotal in Inter’s progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Tottenham Hotspur is in the market for a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, their current goalkeeper. Lloris has been a loyal servant to the club, but at 34 years old, he is nearing the end of his career. Onana could be the perfect replacement for the Frenchman, and his arrival would provide some much-needed competition for the number one spot.
Inter Milan, however, are reportedly unwilling to sell Onana, and it will take a sizeable offer to pry him away from the Italian giants. The Cameroonian goalkeeper arrived at Inter on a free transfer from Ajax last summer, and he has quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at the club.
Manchester United have been in the market for a new goalkeeper for some time now, with David De Gea’s future not certain. Chelsea, on the other hand, is looking for a replacement for Edouard Mendy, who is rumored to be on his way out of the club.
Onana’s former manager at Ajax, Erik ten Hag, is currently in charge at Man United, and the Dutchman is reportedly keen on a reunion with his former player. Ten Hag knows Onana’s abilities well, having worked with him during his time at Ajax.
Inter Milan, however, is not taking any chances and has lined up a potential replacement for Onana. Guglielmo Vicario of Empoli is reportedly being looked at as a possible target, should Onana leave the club this summer.
