Transfer News: Inter Milan open to Ivan Perisic return but on one condition
Inter Milan are open to re-signing Ivan Perisic but they would only make a move for the Tottenham Hotspur wideman if he arrives as a free agent, as per Italian news outlet CalcioMercatoWeb.com.
The 34-year-old arrived from Inter Milan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer as a free agent. He signed a two-year-long deal which doesn’t expire before the end of the 2023-24 season (Transfermarkt).
Perisic has assumed a big role in manager Antonio Conte’s side, where he is arguably our undisputed starter down the left-hand side. If and when needed, Perisic has also deputized down the opposite wing.
Conte and Perisic spent two seasons together at Inter Milan. One would imagine Conte’s presence at Spurs played some sort of a role in selling the idea of joining Tottenham Hotspur to the 124-cap Croatia international.
Return for Perisic?
He was on Inter Milan’s books for seven years, with a season-long loan move to Bayern Munich in between. He is revered by Inter’s board and fans and the player is also believed to hold a soft spot for I Nerazzurri.
Hence, it apparently seems that Inter Milan would be open to signing Perisic but only in the summer of 2024. Unless, of course, Spurs, somehow, decide to terminate the player’s contract before that.
Inter don’t seem to be open to pay anything for a player they lost out on a free transfer themselves. He will be 35 by the time his current deal expires in N17.
By that point, perhaps we should also be thinking about a long-term solution for the left-wing-back/left-back (depending if Conte leaves and a new manager comes in and changes our tactical set-up). Until then, we can expect Perisic to keep putting in his dependable performances for us down the left wing.
