Tottenham owe Bayern money if they appoint Julien Nagelsmann right now
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are considering hiring Julian Nagelsmann as a replacement for Antonio Conte, but the appointment may not happen immediately.
Nagelsmann is believed to be the top choice of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to replace Conte, with the Italian manager being relieved of his duties last night. Cristian Stellini has been appointed as the caretaker manager.
Replacing Conte with a new manager would be a major decision for Levy, and although he is an admirer of Nagelsmann, he may run into trouble if he wants to appoint him now. According to BILD, we will have to pay a fee to Bayern if we appoint the manager right now.
Levy is understandably keen to avoid paying a large sum for a new manager, and Conte’s sacking alone could be expensive. This means that if Levy were to appoint Nagelsmann now, he would have to pay a hefty sum of around £17m to Bayern Munich.
A move for Nagelsmann would be more feasible in the summer transfer window. If Tottenham really wants Nagelsmann, then they should be willing to wait. However, Levy may choose to pay up now out of fear of missing out entirely.
It’s a crucial call for Levy to make. Nagelsmann increasingly looks like the manager who’ll take over at N17. However, we must be careful not to miss out on him as many top clubs might need a manager in the summer.
If they can negotiate a deal for the summer, it would be ideal, but it remains to be seen whether Levy is willing to take that risk. Tottenham will have to make a difficult decision about their next manager, and they will need to consider a variety of factors.
Nagelsmann will be a top-quality manager who can lead the club going forward. He is still very young and has done a great job during his time at RB Leipzig and Bayern, despite being sacked unfairly.
