Tottenham Hotspur confirm Antonio Conte exit and Cristian Stellini promotion
Antonio Conte has left Tottenham Hotspur. It is finally done and is now officially confirmed by the club.
It seemed like a long time coming but the writing really seemed to be on the wall after our 3-3 Premier League draw against Southampton at St. Mary’s last weekend.
Conte descended into an absurd rant where he went after virtually everyone associated with the Spurs squad. He even called the players selfish and took a dig at Spurs’ trophy drought.
Fabrizio Romano has now relayed confirmation that Cristian Stellini will be in charge of the club as head coach until at least the end of the season. Ryan Mason will be his assistant.
Spurs confirm Conte exit
Mason was, of course, our interim boss in the 2021-22 season after Jose Mourinho was abruptly sacked in April. This almost feels like a demotion for him from that season but still, it’s more time with the senior squad instead of the academy teams.
This is something fans expected. It is also not surprising that it happened during the international break just before the business end of the season started.
Conte’s rant almost seemed like an attempt to get himself sacked. Nevertheless, Spurs will, as per Romano, look for a new manager for next season.
Stellini took charge of a bunch of games from January end to early March during Conte’s recovery from gall bladder surgery. He did a pretty decent job and masterminded wins against Manchester City and Chelsea.
