Daniel Levy outlines reason for immediate sacking of Antonio Conte

In a short statement released on the club website, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has revealed the reasons behind the immediate sacking of Antonio Conte at this stage of the season.

Tottenham have announced that Antonio Conte, the team’s manager, has been fired just over a week after his press conference outburst. After a 3-3 draw at Southampton, the Italian coach criticized his squad and the culture of the club.

Although Conte was widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season, chairman Daniel Levy decided to terminate his contract earlier than planned, as he deemed the situation untenable.

In a statement posted on the club’s website on Sunday evening, Levy explained his decision, saying that the team had ten Premier League games left to play and that they were fighting for a place in the Champions League.

To achieve their goals, everyone needed to work together, and Levy believed that the current situation with Conte was not conducive to success. There might have been a feeling that the Italian manager had lost the dressing room.

Levy appeared to believe that Spurs’ push for Champions League qualification was likely to end in disappointment under Conte’s leadership and that the best course of action was to end his reign prematurely.

The club announced that Cristian Stellini would be the acting head coach for the remainder of the season, with Ryan Mason as his assistant. Mason’s appointment as an assistant may come as a surprise since he had previously served as an interim coach when Jose Mourinho was sacked in early 2021.

It remains to be seen how this change will impact the team’s performance in the remainder of the season, but the announcement signals the club’s determination to achieve their objectives and keep their fans satisfied.
