Alasdair Gold explains the relationship between Nagelsmann and Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has explained the relationship between Julian Nagelsmann and Tottenham Hotspur, believing why he thinks the former Bayern Munich manager is a contender for the job.

The sacking of Nagelsmann was one of the most shocking stories to have emerged in recent times in football. The much more unsurprising and expected news was Tottenham sacking Antonio Conte.

With the Italian manager now gone from the club, Tottenham have appointed Cristian Stellini as the caretaker manager for the rest of the season with Ryan Mason expected to act as the deputy.

Nagelsmann has been linked heavily to the Tottenham job ever since he was sacked at Bayern. The talented young manager is said to be a huge fan of the club and Daniel Levy is apparently considering the manager.

It has emerged in recent days that the German and Tottenham go a long way back. Apparently, Nagelsmann was a huge fan of the way the club played against Mauricio Pochettino and he would bring a similar attacking style back to the club.

Speaking about the relationship, here is what reputed journalist Alasdair Gold had to say about Nagelsmann.

“I do think there would be an interest there from Nagelsmann. He forged a really strong connection with Spurs, like a real affinity for them during Poch’s tenure especially. He saw I think a kindred spirit Poch, became a really big fan of Spurs’ style of play and kept a very close eye on Spurs”

“And likewise Spurs kept an eye on him because obviously, his idea was to play attacking football with a real high pressing line, which is very similar to Poch as well. And I know Spurs have very much had him high on their list twice”

“2019 when Poch went, he was a very strong candidate, but they turned to [Jose] Mourinho. And then when Mourinho left, they also really strongly looked at him again, but he was pretty much all tied up with Bayern.”

Nagelsmann is a great appointment for Bayern Munich. A young coach with exciting ideas, the former Bayern man will be hard done by with his sacking at the German club and will want to prove himself.

Tottenham desperately need a change in the style of football they adopt. Moving from Pochettino’s exciting football to a more measured approach under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho hasn’t really worked out.

Nagelsmann is a great tactician who can lead this club to glory. He should be given the time to succeed though, just like Mikel Arteta was at Arsenal. Let’s see how it goes.
