Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal suffers knee injury with Brazil on International break and requires surgery
According to The Sun writer Tom Barclay, via Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has suffered a knee injury while representing Brazil in the international break and would need surgery.
It comes as disappointing news for many as Royal had really started to come on his own in a Spurs jersey and had shown good form of late.
A knee injury which requires surgery at the beginning of April would potentially signal the end of the season for the Brazilian.
Royal, who has made 53 appearances for the club, never fully managed to convince former manager Antonio Conte of being a key figure in the starting eleven. A change of management results in a new challenge where every player starts from the starting line and it could potentially have a huge impact on Royal’s time at Spurs.
The injury came at the worst time possible for the right-back, with the new incoming of Pedro Porro an added competition for places and the injury could potentially allow Porro to cement his place as the first-choice right-back.
Moreover, he would have wanted to leave good memories of this international break in manager Ramon Menezes’ mind, given he is one the fringes of the Selecao. After not travelling to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Emerson knows he has to stay consistent if he wants to make the cut for Brazil.
Nevertheless, an injury is never good for any player and everyone would hope that the Brazilian recovers as soon as possible. Conte’s last signing at the club with Porro coming in has proven to be more useful than thought off at the time and allows us to continue in the race for the top four despite injuries.
After a horrid start to his career at Spurs, Porro has been improving with every game and was on the scoresheet in the disappointing draw against Southampton.
