Alasdair Gold talks about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Julien Nagelsmann
According to Football Journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur have a great chance of appointing Julien Nagelsmann as their next manager to succeed Antonio Conte.
Gold reported last week that Nagelsmann has been a long-time admirer of Spurs’ style of play under former manager, Mauricio Pochettino. Nagelsmann, known for his high-pressing and attacking philosophy, shares a similar mindset with Pochettino, who transformed Spurs into a consistent top-four side during his tenure.
Gold also acknowledges that Nagelsmann may need some time to recover mentally after his stint at Bayern Munich. The German manager was recently sacked by Bayern Munich and is out of work now.
While there will be plenty of interest in Nagelsmann’s services, Spurs could use this as an opportunity to make themselves an attractive option for the highly sought-after manager, considering his admiration for the club.
Nevertheless, Nagelsmann remains a prime target for Spurs, having been on their shortlist twice before. The German manager was reportedly high on the club’s list of replacements after Pochettino’s departure in 2019, and again after Mourinho’s sacking.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Gold had to say about what he thinks will happen with Spurs and Nagelsmann
“I reported last week that Nagelsmann forged a real connection with Spurs during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure and became a big fan of their style of play under the Argentine. I think Spurs have a chance with Nagelsmann. Both parties would fit each other really well. However, it’s very much down to making themselves the most attractive option if they decide that he’s the man”
If Nagelsmann does end up at Tottenham, it would be a fascinating appointment for the club. The German manager has already proven himself to be one of the brightest young minds in football, having led RB Leipzig to the Champions League semi-finals in 2020.
With his attacking philosophy and keen eye for tactics, Nagelsmann could be the ideal candidate to take Spurs back to the top of English football. However, he must be given the time to instil his ideas.
