Ruben Amorim to reject Tottenham Hotspur approach due to Daniel Levy
Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP has been one of the names linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job ever since it started to become clear that Antonio Conte will no longer be the club’s manager.
But Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Daily Mail) claims that Amorim will not work at Tottenham Hotspur due to Daniel Levy’s ‘temper’. The 38-year-old is widely regarded as one of the finest young coaches in European football.
He has done a stellar job at Sporting and has already won the Primeira Liga title with them. Some would say that the Portuguese league doesn’t boast the quality that the Premier League does.
But winning the league there with Sporting when SL Benfica and FC Porto exit is a huge achievement in itself. Moreover, the Leoes are playing UEFA Champions League football this season – something Arsenal and Manchester United cannot boast about.
No issues for Spurs
His tactics are centred around making his team play effective but attractive football where they are not afraid to attack but don’t compromise their defensive foundation due to that. The way he honed Pedro Porro into becoming a brilliant wing-back there caught Spurs’ eyes.
The work he has done with former Spurs winger Marcus Edwards also shows that he is able to get the best out of what he has to work with. Despite losing the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Nuno Mendes, and Matheus Nunes in recent years, Sporting still remain a stable club under him.
Levy may not be the easiest person to work with but he seems to have the club’s best interests at heart. He has done what he can to bring names like Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo here to end the club’s long-standing trophy drought.
Whether he backs them effectively with the players they may want is another question. But if Levy’s style of conducting business isn’t something that suits Amorim, one can’t hold it against him.

It would be foolish for him to leave a club where he has cemented his status as a modern-day icon and give up that comfort for coming to a team and working for someone he apparently doesn’t like. There are many other managers we can look at. Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino apparently continue to top our shortlist.
