Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski speaks on the exit of Antonio Conte
Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Mirror, Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham’s star winger, has shared his thoughts on the departure of former manager Antonio Conte.
Kulusevski supported the club’s choice to part ways with the Italian coach despite his expression of regret at his departure. With Tottenham, Conte’s time was uneven. Although he was able to lead the squad to a top-four finish the previous year, the current campaign has been anything but easy.
The team has had trouble settling in, and Conte’s rapport with the players has seemed tense. Kulusevski’s performances however were a sole shining light in Conte’s tenure and Tottenham will be glad that their former manager got them such a good player.
He emerged a key player for Tottenham in the second half of last season, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in the second half of last season. He was one of the main reasons we made top four last time around.
Kulusevski said that while he was grieved by the departure of his former coach, he recognised that it was not his call. He also highlighted that no matter who the club named as coach, the players would support him.
The professionalism of Kulusevski is commendable. It’s encouraging to watch a young athlete with such composure. Here is what the talented Swedish winger had to say about Conte and the club’s decision.
“It’s not me who decides. Whoever is the coach, we players will always accept and play for him and for everyone else. Now the club made this decision because they think it is the best and we players stand behind that.”
Kulusevski also shared that he had learned a lot from Conte and that he would always remember him. The Swede will know that he was one of the most trusted players of the Italian during his time here. He has also notably mentioned that the players are backing the club’s decision to part ways with Conte.
The young Swede’s positive attitude will be critical in Tottenham’s remaining fixtures. With just ten games left in the season, the team needs to remain focused and united. Let’s hope the former Juventus man can lead from the front.
