Daniel Levy ‘vows never to sell’ another Tottenham Hotspur player to Manchester clubs after Kyle Walker transfer
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is supposedly still not over the £50million sale of Kyle Walker from Spurs to Manchester City in 2017.
Walker was, and still is, one of the finest right-backs in the Premier League and Europe. His pace coupled with his work rate at both ends of the pitch was remarkable.
He gave us much-needed stability down the right flank and it wasn’t surprising Manchester City came to the table with an offer for him. At the time, the money they offered would have seemed like a lot.
We’re talking about nearly six years ago. Teams weren’t paying that figure for full-backs on a regular basis. But in the long run, it cost us a lot… we have yet to find a proper replacement for him.
Lesson learnt
According to the Daily Mail (h/t Metro), Levy has ‘vowed never to sell’ another Tottenham Hotspur player to Manchester City or Manchester United again. Currently, the Red Devils are linked with a move for Harry Kane.
It will actually work well for us if Levy practises this approach. If we want to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United for trophies on a consistent basis, we can’t be letting them sign our good players to strengthen at our expense.
As for Walker’s departure, the club could have certainly done more to keep hold of him at that time. He spent eight years with us after permanently signing from Sheffield United and was one of our best players when he left.

We seemed to have learnt a lesson after that. He was probably the last major sale we made when it came to a world-class first-team star. If Kane has to go anywhere and not stay at Spurs, our fans, without any doubt, will want him to go to a direct PL rival.
