Falk: Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Julian Nagelsmann also has ‘Chelsea to consider’
Chelsea are apparently pursuing a move for German coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is also on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, as their potential new manager.
This is according to German football expert and BILD journalist Christian Falk, who wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column:
“I’m not sure if Nagelsmann’s first option is Tottenham. I think it would be fine for him, but there is also Chelsea to consider. Chelsea have him on the list and his management is close to the club; when Timo Werner played there it was the exact same agency.”
Falk also mentioned that Nagelsmann is in no hurry to choose his new club and wants to take a mini-hiatus from management. The 35-year-old was recently sacked by Bayern Munich and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Big blow for Spurs
Is Chelsea’s interest in Nagelsmann a threat for Spurs? Most definitely. Graham Potter was appointed in September last year for Tuchel and the Englishman is clearly struggling.
Of course, he will take time to settle at a club bigger than Brighton & Hove Albion where the scrutiny and attention have automatically increased. He is clearly feeling the pressure.
Chelsea are struggling domestically and only a miracle can help them make the UEFA Champions League spots this season. If they part ways with the English tactician, then Nagelsmann could definitely be a good option for them.
As they have shown ever since Todd Boehly’s takeover last year, they aren’t afraid to spend. Spurs can’t boast such numbers and the future of Harry Kane is also up in the air.
Moreover, Nagelsmann will have a plethora of young stars at Chelsea to hone for the future. Spurs have to make sure that they put forth their project as more lucrative than Chelsea’s because the west Londoners can come across as a more intriguing opportunity for him.
If we make the Champions League this season and Chelsea don’t, that will certainly be a big point in our favour.
