Tottenham Hotspur inform Mauricio Pochettino of their decision after brief talks
Tottenham Hotspur have informed Mauricio Pochettino they won’t be re-hiring him in the coming months as the search for Antonio Conte’s permanent replacement continues.
This is according to the Daily Star (h/t the Express), who claim that the club held ‘brief talks’ with the Argentine tactician and informed him of their decision. The club sacked ‘Poch’ in the 2019-20 season despite making the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.
For many, that was a mistake. And with each passing manager, that belief is only strengthened. Yet, Spurs apparently want a ‘new voice’ at the helm, which makes sense.
Pochettino would be a safe option – a manager who spent around five years at the club and knows more than half the squad because he is the one who laid down the foundations for this team.
Are Spurs doing the wrong thing?
Yet, he could never seem to have gotten us over the line when it came to winning trophies. No other manager has in nearly 15 years, but Spurs would perhaps think that Pochettino may suffer a stint here once again.
He did not have the cutting edge as a manager to get the team over the line when it came to the business end of the season. But what the club isn’t realising is that it needs stability for a while.
Poch knows Harry Kane quite well and perhaps could help us in keeping hold of him (hopefully!). Moreover, with Fabio Paratici taking an immediate leave of absence, the club are going through a serious period of uncertainty.

In Pochettino, they can get a man familiar with the ins and outs of the club. Moreover, the 51-year-old tasted success with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) by winning the Ligue 1 title in the 2021-22 season before being let go last summer. He is a more refined, experienced manager than he was in 2019.
